Noah Georgeson is a
musician,
producer, and now solo artist whose debut album
Find Shelter was released on
Plain Recordings on
November 28,
2006. Born
January 19,
1975 in
Nevada City, California, he first found success as a part of
San Francisco band
The Pleased, along with fellow member
Joanna Newsom. He has played guitar in
Devendra Banhart's live band, and produced both Banhart's
Cripple Crow, and
Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon as well as Joanna Newsom's
The Milk-Eyed Mender, and
Bert Jansch's
The Black Swan. On his album, he's credited as having "written, scored, arranged, recorded, and produced" the entirety of
Find Shelter, according to a press release from Plain Recordings. It has also been said the Devendra Banhart song "Noah" from his album
Nino Rojo was written about Georgeson.
He is credited as a songwriter on four songs from
Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon: Lover, Saved, Samba Vexilographica, and Tonada Yanomaminista.
Noah received his Master's Degree in music composition from
Mills College in Oakland, California in 2003, and has studied with
Terry Riley,
Alvin Curran,
Pauline Oliveros and
Fred Frith.
He is the touring guitar player in Devendra Banhart's band.
Georgeson's personal attributes have been known to be the inspiration for Banhart's band name, Spiritual Bonerz.
